As a wedding gift for a close friend, I offered to draw something for them. They chose a photo of the two of them observing a glacier in Alaska. In the photo, they were in the center, but I know they are the kind of people who don't want to hang pictures of themselves in their own house, so I drew them off to the side, and the focus of the drawing becomes the glacier and mountains. They are there, recreating the memory, but it doesn't feel like it is all about them.
